We, the undersigned, represent a broad and diverse constituency that converges in opposition to the needless destruction of wildlife that belongs, by law, to all the people of the state, and, indeed, the world.

We write as community leaders, and as individual citizens. We trust that we represent the majority: those concerned about the humane, compassionate treatment of wildlife.

As the 21st Century approaches, we acknowledge the need for protection of other species with which we share the environment. We agree that reasonable efforts should be made to maintain the recreational utility and aesthetics of public property, and implore the Clarkstown Town Council to use solely non-lethal methods of doing so.

We request that you, as individual board members, exercise your authority to prevent another round up and slaughter of Canada geese in Clarkstown which has recently been announced. We encourage your vote to implement exclusively non-lethal methods of goose dissuasion, which have proven effective in other communities, as per the Rockland County Task Force Report. The non-lethal measures should be implemented as soon as possible.
